And now, a printer for cell phone

You can do so many things with a cell phone now that it's getting hard to find what you want on the device without clicking through menu after menu.

Booth after booth at the CTIA Wireless 2005 show, which opened here Monday, is devoted to cell phone pictures, music, e-mail, instant messaging, calendars, contacts, TV and video games.

A company using this week's wireless show to push cellular simplicity is Eastman Kodak Co., whose top executive spoke at Monday's opening.

Kodak hopes to make it easier for camera phone users to print out their photos -- with Kodak printers on Kodak paper -- rather than just sharing them as a digital attachment via wireless messaging, especially now that picture resolution is improving to a level comparable to standalone digital cameras.

"It's a mystery how to get the picture out of a camera phone and print it," Chief Executive Daniel Carp said, noting that it can take a half dozen or more clicks to get to a desired picture stored on a phone. "This isn't stock prices or ball scores.. . . People want to hold and touch and archive their pictures."

To that end, Kodak demonstrated a cell phone attachment for its EasyShare Printer Dock Plus, which is designed to print digital pictures directly from a Kodak camera.

A different cradle would be needed for different models.
